  2. Brett B Says:

Congrats everyone!! Sorry I couldn’t find anyone near the finish, or be able to cheer. I was cheering on my wife and father in law who finished 2:22.43 for her first time out.

    Unbelievable times!!! Always inspirational!

  3. BK Says:

Thanks for organizing another great event! CrossFit WOD’s are truly all you need to run a race like this. I hope more of you will join us next year!

  4. Ted Says:

Impressive showing everybody! CFS was certainly represented well. Today was a big deal for me; thanks for letting me share it with you.

  5. Luke Says:

Without ever running more than 6 miles in a lifetime. I ran my 1st 1/2 marathon today (13.1) With no previous long distance training besides running home from the “box” (2.2 miles) at a slight incline all my training for today’s race has come from CROSSFIT. With 400 and occasional 800 meter runs combined with pulls and presses, squats and lifting anything and everything over my head. I set out on proving my Hypothesis correct. Long distance running is not needed to run long distances.

1st my pre-race preparation started last Monday when we officially started Sunfare the gourmet food delivery system. Coming soon to CrossFit Scottsdale. I consumed a week’s worth of Fish oil and by Thursday I started to double my water intake to a gallon a day. My biggest challenge was going to be dealing with my calves especially my right one. I had an athletic conditioning massage by Zogisle on Saturday and iced both legs before bed last night. Dinner was steak fajitas and a couple extra slices of Mommas banana bread with fresh cherries and a glass of whole milk *see CrossFit Football. 7 hours of sleep and an ice cold shower later I prepared for “WAR” at 5am Sunday morning with my close friends and prepared to battle my biggest enemy… Competition.

While other runners, started to slow and get weaker as the race progressed the intensity of CrossFit training has made my Endurance and Stamina strong enough to get passed “The Wall” Today my skills and drills were tested. The result a 1:46:18 with an average 8:10 min/mile. More importantly I had fun doing it and I feel great now.

The most noticeable aspect of my training came at the bottom of the hill at mile 8. I could see the runners who had paced their miles through heart rate watches work so hard at adjusting the speeds to accommodate the long incline. This is where I put it in 5th gear. My mindset always working on finishing harder than I started. “One more round”. By the time I hit stride with 3 miles to go I was running harder than I had all morning. When I hit the bridge and saw the crowd of thousands of spectators I was in a full sprint the last 800 meters through the finish line. Within 60 seconds I was back to breathing normal. Recovery!

We all did amazing. Thank you for letting me be such a big part of this community. Next up the CrossFit Scottsdale Run for Kids 1/3 inside Scottsdale stadium ages 3-15. The Pat Tillman 4.2 mile run in April. Let’s continue this energy through the end of January and the Aloha mile challenge.

    Respectfully
    Coach
