Athlete Of the Month

From a skinny kid to a solid stud. We honor Paul Zetah this month for his attributes as a student in the classroom at CrossFit Scottsdale and for how far he has come the last few years outside the gym.
Headed down the same road alot of us found ourselves drinking and partying his dad Roger had a man to man talk with him and now 3 years later he is the healthiest he has ever been in his life.
Dedicating his life to himself and his family Paul has climbed the ranks from Level I to Level II and will definitely be apart of our Level III exam. Congratulations Paul it is a pleasure pushing you to your limits.

In today’s Law Enforcement it is all about functionality. Being involved in CrossFit Scottsdale has prepared me for that type of training. CrossFit has reduced my level of injury due to the fact that my body is not shocked by the movements and exercises. Working in law enforcement if you are ahead of the game physically, it will be much easier mentally. Stress levels will be reduced and you will be able to focus more on your job.

In the bigger picture ,once in the field, there is a high probability of many dangerous encounters.  Being in top shape gives you a “Officer Presence” that will most likely make someone think twice about assaulting you, running from you or challenging you.  In Law Enforcement we are trained to WIN and SURVIVE no matter what! There is no defeat or give up.  CrossFit tests my mental strength and pushes me to levels that I may have not know I had. So in a life or death situation, the better you are prepared physically and mentally,  the greater chance YOU GO HOME AT THE END OF YOUR SHIFT which is what it is all about.

Congratulations to Patty N. on becoming Athlete of the Month. Patty joined our Team back in January with a runners background and the lack of strength that goes with it. In 6 short months she has gained strength, successfully passed the Level I test, practice Paleo,  ran the Pat Tillman, screened Food inc. and more importantly has become an amazing Teammate in class. Thank you for your hard work and dedication Patty.

  • Athlete of the month

So what do you get when you mix an X Power Lifter and one of our newest Level I students? You get the 3rd piece of the Peck family Dwight, who has earned Athlete of the Month honors. You may have seen this “Fit Family” jump out of the car and right into a WOD. Both his wife Maria and brother Ashley are very active in our community and are always showing support for all of our students. Dwight you are a student of the game and I respect that. I have a feeling your not going to be the only Level II in this family.

  • “Dont give up on me”

Coach: Thanks for the “stop being a wimp” speech tonight…you are absolutely correct! I need to get my mind back to being tough and pushing thru pain and challenge.  As I get older (not that I am old….) I find it
harder and harder to work through injuries.  They seem to set me back more each time… My shoulder will be fine.

Being as competitive as I am it really pisses me off when I fold when the challenge arises… I simply will not allow that to happen anymore!  Stick with me. I have only been Cross fitting for 10 weeks now…I am
still learning as is my body how to improve, push, and extend my mind through the challenges we meet each day.

I promise I will stay positive, supportive, and strive to improve everyday… don’t give up on me…

    Thanks again!

  • Aloha January Run Challenge Team Winner’s

Team Awesomeness: Logged 56 miles after class in the month of January. Sara and Erin AKA Roar and Harkey tore up the pavement and sealed the victory for the 3 days/3 nights stay in Kaanapali, Maui. “Roar” also stamped her mark in the streets earning the Co- athlete of the month for January. Sara is a CrossFit Scottsdale Ambassador, she is always early and always stays late to work on skills and can double under with the big boys. Take a few minutes to get to know her and she will be a lifelong friend. ”Thank you for your Hard’nup attitude, I love it” Coach

How do you feel about running? Do you love running and want to keep getting better and faster? Do you hate running and find it frustrating? In either case, the only way to improve is to KEEP RUNNING. Nobody gets better at anything by NOT doing it. Every great athlete at one point was the new guy, learning, fumbling and failing just like the rest of us. People who have achieved "mastery" don't ever stop the work, though. They exercise their "show up, don't quit" attitude over and over. A great way to make the "work" interesting is to put some "skin in the game" and to do it with a group of like-minded people. Which leads me to...the CrossFit Scottsdale 5K Challenge. Are you in?? Cost is $25.00 per participant. Sign up by emailing infor@CrossFitScottsdale.com or signing up at the gym.
