CrossFit Kids provides more than just a workout, it builds teamwork, responsibility, accountability, sportsmanship and much more. Most of our CrossFit Kids classes end with a game. We have fun but it is also an integral part in the education that CrossFit Kids provides. Games require rules to be followed which builds listening skills, tasks to be completed which builds responsibility, and someone must win or lose and we always encourage and build healthy competative spirit and good sportsmanship. CrossFit give such a broad spectrum of exercises and movements that some we are good at right off the bat and others take months to learn. The attitude that I working on being good at something permeates every class and seeing others perform these movements helps us set goals for ourselves. Today is dedicated to the game and all it offers our CrossFit Kids.
CrossFit Scottsdale Kids sharing and eating "Paleo" style
Teamwork is an integral part of life and the only way some of us get through a WOD. With the support and comraderie of your fellow crossfitters and teammates you can push yourself harder and perform better. For our CrossFit Scottsdale Kids, they get introduced to teamwork at an early age. Not only do they learn to work together but they learn to cheer eachother on and support their teamates too. Nothing makes me smile more than when our heroes are giving “hi fives”!

Warm Up: Get on the Leaderboard!
We had a blast at Saturday’s CrossFit Scottsdale Kids Water WOD! What is great is that we have a blast at every CrossFit Scottsdale Kids class. CrossFit is FUN! Life should be FUN, and CrossFit makes you better at life! Enjoying and associating exercising with fun makes all the difference in what kind of lifestyle we adopt. Are your kids going to be in front of the T.V.on the couch in their free time or are they going to be out and about seizing whatever opportunity they find to be active and challenged? We are learning functional movements and building skills that are broad, general and inclusive so that you can play any sport, be more alert in school, be healthier and you can do anything that life throws at you. We are building the foundation for our kids to do the impossible! More importantly we are building a lifestyle where exercising is our play time. Now that is FUN!
Most of our kids at CrossFit Scottsdale are back in school by now but the heat of summer is definitely still here. So we thought we would kick off back to school with a summer’s still here fun with water day! The CrossFit Scottsdale Heroes are prepared to get fit and get wet today as we do waterballoons, CrossFit style!
Today’s Water WOD

Toss your waterballoon to your partner, your partner must catch it and do a squat and toss it back as you catch it and squat. Then you each take a step back and continue until the waterballoon breaks. Once it breaks you must sprint 100 meters and do 10 push press.
Waterballoon farmer’s walk relay:
Goal is to get all the waterballoons from one side to the next. You must load up your bucket walk it farmer’s style to the bucket on the other side (100 meters) and then sprint back and do 10 box jumps. 1st team to get all waterballoons on the other side wins. If one breaks your whole team has to do 10 jumping squats.
Water bucket fill relay: Same rules apply as the waterballoon farmer’s walk relay, except you must do 10 lunges with your bucket to start your farmer’s walk.
Game: Waterballoon Dogeball

We have been working hard on form, coordination and strength in many crossfit movements. Today is about putting those movements together and showing off your skills!
Saturday is our Fun WOD Water day! Be sure to wear clothes and shoes that can get wet as we play and workout with waterballoons to kick off back to school and the end of summer! Friends and family are welcome. Class starts at 11am.
Strength can come in many forms. You can see it when you need to use it such as lifting, pushing or pulling any object. You can also see it in the form of confidence when faced with challenges. CrossFit Scottsdale Kids works on building strength in all areas. We do body weight movements to work on correct form, increase strength and neurological development. As movements get perfected and kids get older we start using small weights to continue that progress. The movements are changed everyday so that our kids are also challenged to try new things. As they take on these challenges and succeed their confidence grows and their mental strength is also increased. Our CrossFit Scottsdale Kids Little Heroes (ages 3-5), Young Heroes (ages 5-12) and Heroes (ages 11-17) are becoming heroes everyday as they build both physical and mental strength.

As I sat in the airport I was saddened by what I saw. First it is the food choices and then its the adults and especially kids that are partaking in that food while using the moving walkways and carts to get them from one gate to the next. Take a look around in any public place. Maybe you see it in your neighborhood. Maybe the only place you have to look is right a home. It seems to be an acceptance or complacency to things as normal. As if there isn’t another way. An attention to only short term rewards versus long term pay offs . Our kids are in the wrong shape…the round kind of shape. They only know what we know and do what we do. It has become an epedemic in which the First Lady Michelle Obama has set out to fight. It is something we all should fight. Our kids should thrive on being active and healthy, enjoy it and live it everyday. If you are not going to change for yourself at least change for them. Educate yourself, educate them. Know that there is another way.
CrossFit Scottsdale kids give kids and teens ages 3-17 the opportunity to enjoy exercise, learning how to fuel their bodies, and become strong, healthy, confident adults. We breed a culture of higher expectations, self empowerment and a drive to continually better yourself. It is a community of learning and changing lifestyles to affect positive change. We don’t settle and we are not complacent. This is the same for our adult students as it is our kids.
CrossFit Scottsdale changes LIVES…CrossFit Kids changes the FUTURE!

How do you feel about running? Do you love running and want to keep getting better and faster? Do you hate running and find it frustrating? In either case, the only way to improve is to KEEP RUNNING. Nobody gets better at anything by NOT doing it. Every great athlete at one point was the new guy, learning, fumbling and failing just like the rest of us. People who have achieved "mastery" don't ever stop the work, though. They exercise their "show up, don't quit" attitude over and over. A great way to make the "work" interesting is to put some "skin in the game" and to do it with a group of like-minded people.
Which leads me to...the CrossFit Scottsdale 5K Challenge. Are you in?? Cost is $25.00 per participant. Sign up by emailing infor@CrossFitScottsdale.com or signing up at the gym.
