A New Level

Through rain, sweat and over 40 cheering voices… 7 students recieved their “orange” band and the title of a Level II CrossFit Scottsdale student.  Congratulations to Ted, Dwight, Paul, Maria, Mel, Carl, & Skip for passing the test!  For Pops, Branson and Don-now you know just how close you are to your “orange” band.  I am so proud of all of our athletes that competed and the friends, family and fellow students who came out to see the famed Level II test, making it our largest to date.  We are a community and it showed!  We are a tight nit group that thrives on intenstiy and is always looking towards what is next.  The next level, the next PR… how much can I do and how hard can I push myself! As Paul finished his 3/4 BW Overhead squats with less than 5 seconds on the clock, all of us erupted in cheers and new that at that moment a new level was reached.  So what’s next????  What is in store for the mysterious Level III?  Keep pushing yourself… and maybe you’ll find out. Coach Tiffany

FIRST STRENGTH CLASS FRIDAY JUNE 4

If this was you during the CrossFit Total on last week no need to worry help is on the way. That help of course is our new 5:30 pm class on Fridays.

HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

    -  workouts will be focused on the foundational strength exercises of back squat, deadlift, and shoulder press

    - students should come to class with an established 1 rep max in all 3 exercises (if you missed the CrossFit Total last week, use your private skill session to find these 1 rep maxs with a coach)

    - we will teach technique and work on all Olympic lifts

    - a Level I white band is required to get into class (for those of you who do not have your white band, there is a Level I test on Friday June 18th at 6 pm)

    The Hopper Challenge!

    CHALLENGE YOURSELF WITH THE UNEXPECTED!

We train for the unknown and the unknowable. What better way to test our training than a Hopper Challenge. Here’s how it will work:

We will place 21 different WODs into the “Hopper”. Saturday February 6th we will spin the hopper and select one WOD. From 8-10am we will run heats of the selected WOD. Your goal is to do your best on the WOD selected. We will be scaling the WOD for beginner, intermediate and advanced so all levels are encouraged to participate.

21 days later we will redo the selected WOD. Saturday February 27th from 8-10am will be the “Hopper Challenge” Finals. You will have had 21 days to train crossfit style and see how much you have improved on the surprise WOD.

Prizes will be awarded for most improvement in Male and Female categories as well as fastest time/best score for the beginner, intermediate and advanced categories depending on the WOD selected. Prizes will be a free upgrade to unlimited training for 1 month and for our already unlimited folks you get your choice of some pro-shop merchandise or an extra private skill lesson.

This is the perfect way to test your skills and hit it hard going into the second month of 2010!

    Only $21 to participate.
Sign up in the gym to reserve your spot!

Here is a video on the 2007 CrossFit Games Hopper WOD:

How do you feel about running? Do you love running and want to keep getting better and faster? Do you hate running and find it frustrating? In either case, the only way to improve is to KEEP RUNNING. Nobody gets better at anything by NOT doing it. Every great athlete at one point was the new guy, learning, fumbling and failing just like the rest of us. People who have achieved "mastery" don't ever stop the work, though. They exercise their "show up, don't quit" attitude over and over. A great way to make the "work" interesting is to put some "skin in the game" and to do it with a group of like-minded people. Which leads me to...the CrossFit Scottsdale 5K Challenge. Are you in?? Cost is $25.00 per participant. Sign up by emailing infor@CrossFitScottsdale.com or signing up at the gym.
